HOMELAND SECURITY / GEMA EXERCISES FOR 2008 1st BN A Company will be taking part in the Cobb County School Shooter as well as the North Georgia Medical Pandemic exercises during this next training year. Emergency Management Agency representatives from the 1st BN area of responsibility are using our services more and more. This reflects on high level of training and professionalism of the members of the unit and the actions during mission. The need is growing and as the Georgia National Guard prepares for another deployment we are up to the challenge. If you are interested in this kind of training and want to be apart of a growing team dedicated to service to the state of Georgia. What are you waiting for a personal invite. Saddle up soldier and get to drill. Your future training my be needed by your neighbors, friends and your family. Oh and don't be all day about it.
SEARCH AND RESCUE 2007 - 2008 1st BN, A Company has been involved in several Search and Rescue Mission that cannot be referenced and will not be referenced out of respect for the family. In general the unit has supported active searches for individuals as recent as January of 2008. One of the main focuses of the SAR for 1st BN is training and qualifications. Each member that is active in a search has been trained to Federal as well as State accepted standards for Search and Rescue. Each years training goals are set to support the needs of the community. CHRISTMAS IN NORTH GEORGIA This year the 1st supported the SHOP WITH THE HERO MISSION in Acworth Georgia. This mission is a support function to shop with kids during the Christmas season with gift cards provided by sponsors. This is no cost to the children and lots of fun for all. This mission is supported by all branches of the service and all were present for the 2007 SWTH. Thank you all for a job well done. WAYCROSS WILDFIRE MISSION The Waycross Wild Fire. Members of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Brigade which includes Bartow, Floyd, Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Gordon and Chatooga county residents, were mobilized on the evening of 20th of April to support ongoing efforts with the Waycross Wild Fire. GASDF Teams have been rotating duty at Waycross from North Georgia and continue to support the effort. So far more teams of GASDF soldiers have been dispatched everyday and are expected to be dispatched until the end of the effort to extinguish the fire. The 1st Battalion’s “A” Company & HQ Detachment are participating in the mission, which is supporting Local Police and Fire Departments supporting the efforts to contain and extinguish the fire. This is an on-going mission without a known end date and no estimate yet as to how many GASDF troopers are to be needed or from how many different areas of the state.
HIGHLIGHTED MISSIONS FROM THE MISSION LOG OPERATION SILENT SANTA OF BARTOW COUNTY This years last mission is Operation Silent Santa this kind of mission brings out the best in everyone. We are supporting the Department of Family and Children's Services Silent Santa Program for Children in Foster Care. Our Mission is to deliver the donated toys to the foster homes all over the county. For this we have set aside two weekends and a special force for Christmas Eve. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP CONTACT THE OPERATIONS SECTION AT: S3@1stbde1stbn.net Operation Summary : The 1st BN supported by attached personnel from the Boy Scouts Of America Troop 157, Civil Air Patrol Unit from the Bartow County Airport answered the call from DFCS. The Bartow County DFCS is in a desperate situation and could not cover the Silent Santa Program. They just didn’t have the man power due to case loads and being short on personnel. The DFCS Supervisor called out to the community for help. 1st BN assumed command of the operation and organized the units as they arrived. Boy Scout Troop 157 sent six scouts for shopping, packaging of toys as well as sorting of the donated gifts to be sent out. Each phase of the operation was supervised by GSDF personnel. During the operation DFCS would call with additional toys to be delivered that were donated and sorted by the donator. In this case drivers were assigned based on their availability. Each organization donated several hours of time and lots of gas supporting this operation. I would like to note that some of the toys were delivered to homes in GA over 100 miles from Bartow County. TRANSPORTATION EXPO of NORTH WEST GEORGIA The North Georgia Transportation Expo was supported with a group effort between the Rome Airport, Boy Scouts, Civil Air Patrol and our very own 1st BN of Rome. This Air / Car show was a three day event with may visitors. Below are a few photos of the action at large.
OPERATION COVERED BRIDGE/DOG DAZE The Covered Bridge Festival held in Euharlee Georgia was a three day event with a carnival atmosphere. Rids for the kids, shops and live music dominated the area. Our mission of security enhancement lasted the entire festival. Our unit worked with the Euharlee Police Department, Civil Air Patrol and the Euharlle Covered Bridge Players. The DNR SARDOG Teams provided additional training after the operation. Photo Below: which also included search patterns and area wide hasty searches.
OPERATION FIRECRACKER 06 This Mission supports the Dalton Georgia Parks and Recreation Department by providing security patrols around the park during the 4th of July celebration. Some of the activities include but are not limited to:
We look forward to this mission this year that will occur during the 4th of July weekend in Dalton. A yearly event to support the security staff during the Dalton Georgia Fire works display. This is an all hands event and lots of fun. Your family can see you on duty while enjoying the fun Enjoy the photo log to this mission. OPERATION SILENT MOMENT 06 Memorial Day services at the Marietta Cemetery included several different groups and a few thousand spectators. 2nd BN was charged with the operation and supported by 1st BN, MED DET, HQ and other sections of the GSDF. This mission included but was not limited to security of the area, traffic control, escorts and ushers to the ceremony and an overnight security detail. Job well done. HURRICANE KATRINA/RITA 1st BN was activated to assist in the New Orleans, LA. Air Lift operation knows as Operation Urgent Servant. This mission started the evening of the 31st of August and continued through the 6th of September for 1st BN. During this operation 1ST BN provided new teams daily for a 24 hour shift at Dobbins Air Force Base to assist in the care of special needs individuals that may have been injured or wheelchair bound. This included but was not limited to unloading the aircraft, staging equipment, medical assistance and security. 1st BN set the standard during this mission and each individual trooper preformed above and beyond what was expected. JOB WELL DONE.
